Lyrical Analysis

Lyrics are always deeper than they first appear. This is because anyone who settles down to write lyrics is instantly on a higher level than other human beings. Whether they are writing a raucous attack on the values of the establishment, a satire on revivalism, or even a slushy ballad about a girl with a strange name (c.f. Kayleigh, Kyrie, Mona.) Thus all lyrics can be analysed to a depth that exceeds even the classics of literature and art.

One banana, two banana, three banana, four.

(The bananas are a representation of the people of the world, notice the alarming rate at which they increase.)

Four bananas make a bunch and so do many more.

(Classification, and specific measurement are fundamentally impossible in a world that is highly vague in its composition. Thus Four bananas is a bunch, but so too is many more. It is also says that any number of 'bananas' (or humans) is an equally valid grouping, thus the group of White Anglo-Saxon heterosexual males is just a valid a group as lesbian Moslem fundamentalists. Of course, at the heart is the biblical reference: Exodus 12:22 - "And ye shall take a BUNCH of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning." This is part of the preparation for the original Passover, and here foretells of a second 'Passover' type smiting that our out-of-control population will wreak.)

Over hill and highway the banana buggies go.

(The people of the world have colonies every part of it. They build great road-ways to travel from one part of it to another, and yet their transport is not limited to the road-ways ('highways'), but they can traverse any terrain (represented as a 'hill').

If the 'Passover' interpretation is to be followed, this could described the corpse-laden lorries that will become the most common sight on all once the pass-over begins. Indications of the significance of hills and highways in the moving and grooving of the Lord can be taken from various points of the scriptures.

E.g.: PSALMS 18:7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

PROVERBS 16:17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

ISAIAH 49:11 And I will make all my mountains {or big hills} a way, and my highways shall be exalted.)

Comin' on to bring you the banana splits show.

(The second 'Passover' will be the greatest show on earth. The multitudes will be split, decimated, turned from a large bunch, to a small bunch.)

Four bananas, three bananas, two bananas, one.

(Further evidence for the 'Passover' interpretation. The population of the world is reduced by three quarters.)

All bananas playing in the bright, warm sun.

(Evidence that the second 'Passover' will be brought about because of the effects of global warming. The surviving bananas will have to live out their life under a vastly hotter sun, eking out an existence from the refuse left by the civilisation before the culling.)

Flippin' like a pancake, Poppin' like a cork.

(Scholars are divided as to whether this refers to the madness that the heat and drought will cause in many of those surviving, or to the drug-taking that people will turn to alleviate themselves the terrible burden of living in the post-apocalyptic landscape.)

Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper and Snork.

(These are the true names of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. To truly understand this, we need to read Revelations Chapter 6, verses 1 to 10:

1. And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.

2. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a tongue of red; and a red crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

3. And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

4. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him glasses of pure darkness.

5. And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had teeth of pure white.

6. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

7. And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.

8. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Snork, and he did possess a snout of Hellish length. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

9. And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar, the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

10. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, Tar-ra-ra Boom-dee-ey, Tar-ra-ra Boom-dee-ey.

Amen.)
